Upgrading pool versions

Up to Table of Contents

This FAQ applies to: 0.6.9

Pool versions are backwards compatible, i.e. later versions of ZFS will open older pool versions.

Release 0.6.9 supports pool version 23. You can always find out what pool version is supported by your ZFS implementation by doing

zpool upgrade -v

Downgrading pools is not possible, so be sure you are happy and your system is running stable before upgrading your pool version.

Receiving streams containing newer filesystem versions will work, but may result in unmountable filesystems until you upgrade your ZFS version.

Refer to Pool VersionN  and Filesystem VersionN for more information.
